Bristol Health EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Transportation Coordinator/Dispatcher is responsible for the prompt notification and activation of EMS system resources for emergent and non-emergent transportation. This position is a scheduled 10 hrs. per week part-time role with the expectation of availability to cover vacation, sick calls, and other shifts on short notice, including day and overnight shifts.

This role involves receiving emergent 911 calls from Bristol Police Dispatch, inputting data into the BHEMS CAD system, dispatching appropriate resources, scheduling non-emergent transportation requests, and managing incoming calls and booking methods. The Transportation Coordinator/Dispatcher facilitates patient throughput within the Bristol Health EMS service area and works directly with Case Managers, Nurses, and other stakeholders. The position reports to the Bristol Health EMS Manager responsible for Dispatch Operations.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Establishes priorities for multiple EMS emergency call requests and assigns units based on availability.
  2. Communicates with EMS agencies to receive and relay information, tracking locations and demands.
  3. Receives, interprets, and processes all transfers requiring EMS response, recording relevant data such as timestamps and delays.
  4. Works with EMS agencies and case managers to triage clinical needs and ensure appropriate resource utilization.
  5. Requests, receives, and verifies medical necessity documentation supporting the clinical level of service.
  6. Prioritizes transport requests as needed.
  7. Coordinates with Connecticut's Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Broker for Husky client transportation needs.
  8. Notifies the Operations Supervisor of early morning calls to arrange resources.
  9. Obtains pre-transport insurance authorizations as required.
  10. Documents and reports on patient placement activities and throughput issues.
  11. Collaborates with clinical staff to ensure seamless service delivery and addresses barriers to patient throughput.
  12. Participates in strategic initiatives and problem resolution efforts.
  13. Provides feedback to leadership on performance related to patient throughput.
  14. Maintains confidentiality of patient, staff, and management data.
  15. Models excellent customer service and ensures standards are met for internal and external customers.
  16. Maintains knowledge of all relevant computer systems supporting EMS activities.
  17. Demonstrates strong multitasking skills across multiple computer systems, including EMS CAD software.
Qualifications

Educational / Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements: None.

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements: General orientation at hire, annual Fire/Safety/Infection Control training, current CPR certification, and other programs as mandated.

Special Requirements: Data entry skills, customer service experience.
