The Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences is currently offering an opening for a fully funded doctoral research opportunity (3 years, 100% position, TV-L E13) supervised by Prof. Dr. Dana Jalobeanu.

We are seeking highly motivated and talented individuals to join our dynamic and international research team and contribute to cutting-edge research within the intersection of History of Renaissance and Early Modern Philosophy and History of Science, with a focus on the seventeenth century emergence of experimental philosophy, early modern practices of reading, writing and experimental research, Francis Bacon, the diffusion of Baconianism in Europe or other related subjects. We are particularly interested in candidates that can employ methods from both history of philosophy and history of science, and that have a broad interest that includes different aspects of pre-modern philosophy (for example, an interest in the Renaissance, or the survival of the classical tradition). We are also interested in applications that show a familiarity with Digital Humanities.

The successful candidate will also have teaching and administrative tasks; and she/he will be part of the Early Modern Lab.

The earliest possible starting date is September 15, 2025 but a later start is possible.

Your tasks:

  • Research and teaching at UTN
  • Taking an active part in the research activities of the Early Modern Lab and the Classics Lab, conference participation
  • Taking part in conference and seminar organization and other administrative activities of the Early Modern Lab
