JOB DESCRIPTION

The role

As the Staff Data Scientist for Marketing Communications, you will spearhead the development of data-driven strategies and personalized experiences to enhance customer engagement. You’ll join a key initiative centered on marketing automation, driving improved effectiveness in HelloFresh’s customer messaging. In this role, you will lead the design and implementation of machine learning models that power various facets of our communications strategy. You’ll also be involved in critical “buy vs. build” decisions and integrate solutions within our existing ecosystem. Additionally, you will help shape and refine tools that enable marketing teams to automate content creation and validation, ensuring messaging remains highly relevant and engaging.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, product, marketing) to translate business objectives into concrete, data-driven strategies.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and refinement of machine learning models to optimize key elements of the communication strategy, including optimal communication timing, frequency management, channel optimization, and personalized action determination.
  • Leverage machine learning and statistical analysis to refine customer segmentation, predict churn, and enhance personalized recommendations.
  • Develop and implement a system for automated content creation and validation, ensuring high-quality and personalized messaging.
  • Evaluate and recommend solutions, contributing to strategic “build vs. buy” decisions based on thorough analysis of available tools and vendors.
  • Contribute to the data science roadmap, identifying emerging opportunities for enhanced personalization and driving innovation.
  • Mentor and support data scientists and colleagues, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
  • What you’ll bring

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience with a Master's degree, or a minimum of 5 years of professional experience with a Ph.D. degree, in a quantitative field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data science, with a strong emphasis on personalization and marketing communications.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning principles and techniques relevant to send personalization and content creation including regression, classification, recommendation systems, clustering, natural language processing, and multi-armed / contextual bandit algorithms.
  • Proven ability to solve complex optimization problems that involve a large number of dimensions and optimization targets.
  • Proven ability to design and interpret A/B tests and quasi-experiments with synthetic controls to validate hypotheses related to the personalized communication strategy stream.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration capabilities.
  • Experience with customer behavior analysis, segmentation, and identifying high-value actions to drive customer lifetime value.
  • Experience in leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) models (e.g., LLMs) for content generation, including prompt engineering, model evaluation, and fine-tuning to create engaging and personalized customer communications.
