What will you do as a Regional Controller?

The Regional Controller reports to the Group Controller and is responsible for most aspects of financial operations of the company’s EMEA regional operations, including monthly closing and reporting, review of internal controls and processes. The successful candidate will oversee and advise on payroll, tax, transfer pricing, and compliance matters. Additionally, the Regional Controller will collaborate closely with the Finance team at HQ (Burnaby, Canada) to provide financial reporting and commentary on variances and movements in the financial statements. The role also involves working with Managing Directors and regional leaders overseeing offices with 5-30 employees.

This position can be based in our Oulu, Finland office or work remotely in Germany.

The Regional Controller ensures the implementation of strategic business and operational plans communicated from HQ, and that improvements are achieved effectively. The role supervises the European accounting staff (based in the Netherlands and Germany), liaises with service providers across multiple countries, and interacts externally with auditors, insurance agents, banks, government agencies, suppliers, and customers.

1. Oversee the regional accounting functions, including financial statements, shareholder reporting, expense monitoring, and performance reports.
2. Implement recommended accounting process and procedure improvements.
3. Represent the Finance function in the EMEA region, ensuring operational needs are met and policies are adapted to local requirements.
4. Maintain tax compliance schedules and ensure timely filings.
5. Manage European VAT recordkeeping and filings, including intercompany and third-party transactions.
6. Oversee audit processes to ensure efficiency and minimal adjustments.
7. Promote a positive, collaborative environment with staff development, mentoring, and continuous improvement.
8. The role involves approximately 25% travel within Europe, with occasional travel elsewhere.

What do you need to be successful?

• University degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
• Professional accounting designation.
• At least 5 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably with experience in Germany.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills to liaise with stakeholders regionally and globally.
• Experience managing a geographically dispersed team, with regional exposure.
• Proficiency in English; fluency in German is an asset.
• Self-motivated with high attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
• Comfortable working with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment, proactive and resourceful.
• Experience with G-Suite and ERP systems like Oracle Netsuite is an asset.
