TheEditor/Writer will primarily handle a stream of editing assignments. A typical day could involve developmentally editing a brief about global maritime regulations in the morning and then copy editing a long technical report about biofuels in Brazil in the afternoon. Duties range from advising on the logic and structure of research reports to writing and editing summaries for op-eds and fact sheets and reviewing social media posts.This is a full-time, hybrid position that can be based out of our Berlin, Germany office. You will report to the Managing Editor.

You will

  • Review and edita diverse range ofwritten materials, including but not limited to reports, policy briefs, blog posts,fact sheets,andpress releases.
  • Identifyand help resolvepossible editorial issues, including inconsistenciesofargumentation,methodology,development, or organization.
  • Reorganize and rewrite as necessary and negotiate revisions with authors.
  • Handle a continuous stream of editing assignments on a broad range of production timelines. While most ICCT research products are developed on longer timelines, Editor/Writers occasionally work under tight deadlines.
  • Work with researchers to identify research and writing projects that support the ICCT’s strategic goals and translate long-form pieces into briefs, blog posts, op-eds, and other accessible communications products that suit policy objectives.
  • Help build and manage relationships betweenresearchers invarious programs andregionsandtheCommunicationsTeam.
  • Provide writing training to research staff through workshops and other offerings.
  • Uphold the ICCT’s style and quality standards in print and digital products.

You Have

  • A graduatedegree in environmental science, climate change/sustainability,or arelatedfield, orequivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience writing and editing according to professional style guidelines such as APA, Chicago Manual, GPO, etc. (APA experience is a plus.)
  • Experiencewriting and editing scientific papers orpolicy documents(experience withenvironmental or transportation policy is a plus)
  • Ability to understand and synthesize technical information and translate it for multiple audiences differentiated across platforms.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in multiple software platforms and learn new applications quickly. The ICCT is a Mac environment and we use the Microsoft Office Suite of products and Asana, among other programs.
  • Knowledge of the transportation sector and issues related to clean transportation is a plus.
