European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

To support the implementation of European XFEL's "Strategy 2030+" and manage the resulting increase of administrative efforts in our Legal Group we are looking for a

Lawyer (f/m/d)
  • Preparation and negotiation of contracts (in particular R&D cooperation agreements, Ph.D. agreements, license agreements, etc.)
  • Preparation of legal opinions (including in the field of intellectual property)
  • Creation of internal regulations (such as staff notes)
  • Participation in the maintenance of a contract management system

  • At least completion of the German First State Examination ("1. Juristisches Staatsexamen") in law with above-average results
  • In-depth theoretical and/or practical knowledge in the field of intellectual property and/or state aid law would be an asset
  • Relevant professional experience in (international) research institutions would be welcome
  • Fluent in spoken and written German and English is crucial
  • High commitment, flexibility, ability to work under pressure, and teamwork are essential
