About Katherine Hospital
Katherine Hospital is a 60-bed facility serving the Big Rivers Region – an area larger than the state of Victoria. The hospital delivers high-quality care to a diverse and culturally rich population, with many patients from Aboriginal communities and remote cattle stations. With a strong reputation in rural and remote healthcare, Katherine Hospital is a centre of clinical excellence and workforce development in the Northern Territory.
The Role
As the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, you will be the senior clinical leader guiding the delivery of culturally safe, contemporary nursing and midwifery services. Your role will combine strategic vision, operational oversight, and professional leadership, directly shaping the quality of care delivered across the hospital.
Key Duties
Provide expert leadership across multiple areas of clinical practice, ensuring safe, high-quality nursing and midwifery care
Lead the design and evaluation of professional and operational service models that meet community needs
Champion cultural safety, evidence-based practice, and innovation in care delivery
Strategically manage human and financial resources to align with NT Health’s operational plans
Model the NT Health values – safe, responsive, kind – in every decision and interaction
Represent and advocate for the nursing and midwifery workforce at a local and Territory level
About you
We’re seeking for an experienced and values-driven nursing and midwifery leader ready to take on a high-impact executive role. You’ll bring:
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
A track record of leadership in healthcare strategy, people management, and change delivery
Strong capabilities in building workplace culture and workforce capability
Advanced interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with an inclusive and collaborative style
A deep understanding of the cultural and social context of care in the Northern Territory
Commitment to clinical governance, continuous improvement, and quality outcomes
