Within the last years, space near the Earth has become more and more crowded with active satellites by an increasing number of diverse operators as well as by passive space debris. In order to maintain safe and secure operations in space, we need a good understanding of the space environment and the objects therein.
To improve this understanding, Airbus Defence and Space develops innovative space-based capabilities for the detection, classification and characterization of other objects in space. Your job will be to design, simulate and trade-off different mission and satellite concepts to fulfill this goal.

Compensation.
Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.
Familiarization with the use-case, the mission goal and typical spacecraft capabilities.
Definition of different rendezvous and inspection mission scenarios including different targets, observer capabilities and initial orbits.
Familiarization and selection of suitable tools for the preliminary mission simulation and analysis.
Simulation, analysis and optimization of the different mission scenarios.
Derivation of preliminary system requirements.
Regular presentation of progress, preparation of the Master Thesis and thorough documentation of the work.
Enrolled full time Master student (d/f/m) in space or aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, automation engineering, physics, mathematics, software engineering or related fields.
Strong background in orbital mechanics, AOCS and/or mission analysis
Experience in programming (Python) and with dedicated mission analysis tools (e.g., STK, Orekit)
Strong communicative skills and positive attitude towards teamwork.
Interest in Space Situational Awareness topics.
Knowledge in optics and image processing and control technology will be an addition.
