Our engineering department, the Bureau of Technology

Our technology department, known as the Bureau of Technology (BoT), is central to Back Market. It comprises over 30 dynamic product teams that develop and manage services delivering significant value to our customers and suppliers. These teams are supported by our Platform group, which includes more than 10 specialized teams addressing cross-cutting technical issues to enhance operational capabilities. Additionally, we have groups dedicated to sharing knowledge across disciplines such as security, backend, frontend, AI, and mobile, fostering collaboration and professional growth. Our staff engineers also play a key role across the company, providing leadership and technical guidance, and promoting career growth beyond traditional management roles.

About the role

Back Market is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform squad of 10 engineers within the Platform division. The role requires mentoring, coaching, leading delivery, managing production operations, and driving continuous improvement. The position is hands-on, with personal contribution expected. You will help build reliable, high-performing, and secure data infrastructures and tools, making a meaningful impact through your work.

Main technical challenges

Our technical stack is transitioning from a monolith to a distributed, service-oriented architecture. Building efficient, loosely coupled services is a key challenge, enabling teams to independently manage releases, data, SLAs, and services. Platform teams aim to provide a scalable, secure platform that boosts engineering productivity.

Our technical environment

Application: Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Celery), Golang, Django (being phased out)

Data: PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, BigQuery

Infrastructure: GCP (GKE, Datastream, Data Catalog), Terraform, Datadog, ArgoCD, CircleCI, Github

What you will do in this role

• Lead a collaborative team to deliver high-quality software loved by customers and sellers
• Collaborate with product and other teams to align with company objectives
