About the position

Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, in collaboration with DESY in Hamburg, operates several synchrotron beamlines at PETRA III and plans to upgrade to PETRA IV. We are seeking an experienced instrument scientist (Postdoc) to contribute to the design and operation of the new high-energy synchrotron beamline at PETRA IV. The appointment is initially limited to 3 years with potential extension.

Your tasks
  • Optimize the beamline concept and optical components for PETRA IV
  • Commission and manage the beamline post-upgrade
  • Develop sample environments and diffraction techniques
  • Support the design and construction of the successor beamline
  • Conduct research within our R&D program
  • Publish results and present at conferences
Your profile
  • PhD in physics, materials science, or a related field
  • Experience with synchrotron beamline design and operation
  • Experience with high-energy X-ray diffraction; SAXS experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of X-ray optical components (lenses, monochromators)
  • Programming skills in Python
  • Excellent communication skills in English; good German skills preferred
