Job Overview:
TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. As a staff development engineer, you will be responsible for defining the key technologies of our next generation of high-voltage automotive contactors according to market requirements. Starting from first samples until the series product is finished and launched to the market, you will support all steps of the development phase including testing in the laboratory. You will work in an enthusiastic global team to create innovative solutions for the future of electrical vehicles.
- Develop new design solutions for High Voltage (1,000V) Automotive Contactors that meet strict reliability requirements for the automotive industry. Solutions will include electrical, simulations, mechanical, quality, and testing. Create working prototypes and validate design through the TE Document Control Process.
- Become an expert in arc mitigation, high energy physics, contact chamber materials, contact resistance, short circuit capability, and current induced magnetic fields.
- Have expertise in EV Architecture, Battery Systems, Electric Vehicle Power Systems, High Voltage DC Power Systems, Charging Infrastructure, Functional Safety (ISO26262), and ASIL ratings.
- Define, coordinate, and drive development activities from a technical perspective.
- Lead the execution of the Engineering technology roadmap.
- Act as a trainer/mentor for talent engineers or newly founded teams in other EMEA locations.
- Coordinate and facilitate technical engineering communications for internal & external customers.
- Create or control the product design standard.
- Work closely with universities and screen market for potential new hires, Master Thesis candidates, & working students.
- Review customer specifications and translate them into detailed test requirements.
- Design mechanical and electrical test equipment.
- Perform detailed product analysis (visual, mechanical, electrical).
- Collaborate on process and manufacturing topics.
- Maintain a solid understanding of competitive products.
What your background should look like:
- Master’s degree or PhD in physics, mechatronics, or equivalent.
- At least 8-10 years of professional engineering experience.
- Excellent knowledge in electro-mechanical engineering and understanding of complex physical interconnections (structural, magnetic, thermal).
- Knowledge in relay physics and mechanics preferred; equivalent technology fields are also welcome.
- In-depth knowledge of standard production, automation, and process technologies.
- Skilled in analyzing technical customer and market requirements.
- Proficiency with technical tools such as CAD, FEM, etc.
- Experience with automotive development processes and quality standards (QS9000, IATF 16949, DIN ISO 17025).
- Strong communication skills and influencing ability.
- Motivated to work in an international environment, focused on cooperation and teamwork.
- Fluent in German and English; Portuguese skills are a plus.
