Job Description:

HZB’s department Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells develops metal halide perovskite solar cells and has achieved several world record efficiencies for perovskite-silicon (32.5%) and perovskite-CIGS (24.2%) tandem solar cells. We use advanced characterization to determine fundamental properties of perovskite and contact layers, as well as their interfaces. We are seeking a motivated scientist (postdoc) with experience in photoelectron spectroscopy (PES) and related analytical methods, interested in materials research for photovoltaics and renewable energies.

You will work with a state-of-the-art UHV PES setup, analyzing electronic and chemical properties of perovskite films and contact layers. You will utilize our unique CFSYS technique to probe band edges, gap states, and band offsets, contributing to understanding and improving perovskite-based solar cells. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, your work will directly impact the development of advanced photovoltaic materials.

Your Tasks:
  • Use monochromatized XPS and UPS to analyze perovskite films and layers.
  • Characterize valence band, defect states, and band offsets using NUPS and CFSYS.
  • Improve NUPS and CFSYS modes for better sensitivity and spectral range.
  • Apply additional characterization methods such as ellipsometry, XRD, and photoluminescence.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand material functionality in solar cells.
Your Profile:
  • PhD in physics, materials science, chemistry, or related field.
  • Experience with photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS).
  • Interest in analytical methods for materials characterization.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor physics and solar cell technology.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Enthusiasm for solar energy research and teamwork.
Benefits:
  • Opportunity to shape next-generation photovoltaics.
  • Access to advanced labs and synchrotron facilities.
  • Supportive, diverse, and motivated team environment.
  • Career development, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
  • Competitive salary according to TVöD-Bund, 30 days holiday, and additional benefits.
  • Flexible working hours, hybrid work options, and work-life balance support.

Contract duration: 24 months. Salary based on collective agreement.

Application:

Apply via our system by 16.05. We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and are committed to equal opportunities and inclusion.
