Job Description Summary
Responsible for activities related to construction, building, and commissioning on customer sites, including site mobilization, civil work, erection, and commissioning, as well as management activities within this scope. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or focusing on the professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The role allows modification of procedures and practices as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness, etc.).
Responsibilities
- As a Commissioning Engineer, you are responsible for the commissioning and maintenance of installed HVDC and FACTS products on-site, possibly overseeing subcontractors. You will undergo intensive training in this area.
- You coordinate and work both onshore and offshore on our projects, ensuring deadlines are met and quality is maintained.
- You provide technical support to customers and internal functions within GE Vernova for FACTS and/or HVDC transmission projects.
- You are involved in preparing on-site activities in coordination with the customer and project management.
- You are responsible for documentation and site-specific reports.
- You act as the point of contact for all health and safety issues within your responsibility.
- You participate in necessary on-site customer meetings.
Technical Knowledge
- Successfully completed education in electrical engineering or energy technology, ideally with technician training.
- 5 years of experience in assembling HVDC/FACTS systems or high-voltage components is desirable.
- Technical knowledge and experience in commissioning protection relays on-site are advantageous.
- Experience with troubleshooting network recorders and/or analyzers on-site is beneficial.
Skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to document on-site activities, write reports, and plan effectively.
- Supervision of on-site teams.
- Excellent customer management skills, especially during incidents on-site.
- Teamwork and willingness to share knowledge and experience with colleagues: a true "team player".
- Good EHS (Environment, Health, Safety) knowledge and the ability to strictly apply EHS rules, especially during on-site incidents or under customer pressure.
Minimum Qualifications
- Technical understanding of power electronics/electrical networks.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar position.
- Ideally, experience with drives or FACTS/HVDC systems (valves + control + protection systems).
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Fluent in German and English communication skills.
