Job Description

Equine Veterinary Surgeon – Orthopaedics & Racehorse Caseload. Are you a veterinary surgeon with equine experience and a passion for orthopaedics? Keen to develop your skills with exposure to a thoroughbred racehorse caseload? Looking for your next challenge in a supportive and flexible team? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

About the Practice

Join a dedicated equine practice with a vision to be the most highly recommended in the region. Our experienced and motivated team includes vets, nurses, nursing assistants, and a fantastic office-based crew. We handle a varied ambulatory caseload, from children’s ponies and competition horses to elite racehorses, and also provide veterinary cover at racecourses and local events.

We’re well-equipped with the latest technology, including multiple DRs, scanners, scopes, ECSWT, and dental systems, allowing us to offer a comprehensive ambulatory service. Our clinics provide facilities for further investigations and treatments when needed. Located in a beautiful area with easy access to the coast, countryside, and excellent transport links, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy life outside of work too.

The Role

We’re looking for a proactive and capable vet with a strong interest in orthopaedics to help grow and manage this caseload while contributing to our diverse ambulatory work. Experience in diagnostic orthopaedics is a plus, but training can be provided for the right candidate. Prior racehorse experience is beneficial, but a passion for learning and development is what truly matters.

The rota is flexible and tailored to individuals, with OOH shared between the team and external cover. Currently, the on-call rota is approximately 1:10, with a Friday off following any weekend duty. Our team includes multiple certificate holders, and we actively encourage and support further qualifications in any area of interest.

What We Offer
  • Salary: £40,000 - £60,000
  • 7.2 weeks holiday (including bank holidays, plus extra time off over Christmas)
  • £1,750 CPD allowance, plus additional funded BEVA congress attendance
  • Certificate support and further qualifications encouraged
  • Professional fees covered (RCVS, BVA, ARVS or equivalent)
  • Company vehicle available if required
  • Discounted veterinary care across our wider practice group
  • Mobile phone provided
  • Comprehensive benefits, including pension, HealthShield, enhanced parental leave, and access to CPD & collaboration opportunities

If you’re ready to take the next step in your equine veterinary career, we’d love to hear from you!
