Job Description

Your team during this flight:
Develop and define the mechanical design of the electrical Energy Storage Unit (ESU) for the Volocopter, ensuring top performance.

Your mission during this flight:
Ensure the mechanical design of the Battery (Electrical Storage Unit) complies with requirements and passes certification. Provide technical expertise to meet design goals.

Your responsibilities include:

• Define and manage requirements for ESU sub-components
• Develop mechanical designs from concept to serial production
• Collaborate with internal and external teams for hardware development
• Develop verification strategies and certification plans with authorities like EASA
• Manage design documentation within Teamcenter Engineering
• Perform analysis and simulations to support design decisions
• Generate documentation for engineering gates (PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.)
• Ensure quality and participate in root cause analyses

Qualifications:

• Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree (MSc or higher)
• At least 7 years of experience in mechanical design, structural analysis, and FEA of composite and metallic structures
• Experience with manufacturing methods and serial production processes
• Knowledge of HV battery systems and their electro-thermo-mechanical behavior
• Experience with electronics integration
• Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Siemens NX
• Expertise in Design for X (manufacturing, assembly, cost)
• Experience with PLM software, ideally Siemens Teamcenter
• Structured working style, responsibility, and accountability

Preferred skills:

• Hands-on, creative, and solution-oriented teamwork
• Experience with aerospace standards (CS23/CS27/SC-VTOL/DO-160G/DO-311A)
• FEM simulation experience
• Prototyping and testing experience
