Postdoctoral Position on Deep Convection
Employer: Max Planck Institute for Meteorology
The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI‑M) is a multidisciplinary center for climate and Earth system research located in Hamburg, Germany. It is one of the premier climate science research institutes in the world. Located in the heart of one of Europe’s most livable and vibrant cities, it provides a highly international and interdisciplinary environment to conduct scientific research as well as access to state-of-the-art scientific facilities. You can also have a virtual tour of our campus.
We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Position on Deep Convection (W-0044 | all genders) to conceptualize and quantify the controls of anvil extent and cloud feedback of tropical deep convection across scales. As a successful candidate, you will combine your expertise in deep convective processes with advanced data-driven methods and have the autonomy to set your own scientific emphasis. You will work as part of the ERC Starting Grant “MesoClou” team, collaborating with PhD students and a fellow postdoc, supported by an external team of deep-learning experts. You will also become an integral part of the Multiscale Cloud Physics Group established by Dr. Franziska Glassmeier at MPI.
We are looking for a curiosity-driven, conceptually-minded candidate who enjoys scientific discussion and complex data analysis. To be considered, you should have:
While prior experience with machine learning is not required, the ability to shape, perform, and present research independently, both individually and in teams, is expected.
