Job Description

We are looking for a Business Unit Lead who will be based in our German affiliate located in Martinsried / Munich and will lead and manage the Liver Disease business unit.

The BU Lead will have overall responsibility for Strategy, Sales & Marketing, and will lead the cross-functional team to drive the Liver Disease business forward.

The position reports to the General Manager and will be a member of the German Leadership team.

This is a key leadership position for the affiliate:

Essential Functions
  1. Lead the LD cross-functional team providing vision, motivation, support, and coaching to drive the business and achieve our commercial objectives.
  2. Drive development and execution of commercial strategy and action plans for the LD portfolio.
  3. Lead and ensure a well-functioning marketing & sales team.
  4. Drive operational excellence in marketing & sales efforts and business/forecast planning.
  5. Develop, implement, and maintain the infrastructure needed to meet business goals.
  6. Establish effective relationships with opinion leaders and other key stakeholders, being recognized as a trusted and preferred partner in LD care.
  7. Partner with Medical Affairs to ensure effective development and implementation of strategies.
  8. Partner with Government and Public Affairs to ensure a positive policy environment.
  9. Partner with Market Access for all impending launches and to ensure access and competitiveness.
  10. Create an environment where every team member has an opportunity to succeed regardless of tenure or standing within the organization.
  11. Participate actively in the German leadership team and contribute to driving business forward in Germany.
  12. Represent the German leadership team and market perspective in international launch project teams and shape global strategy.
  13. Represent Gilead Germany internally and externally.
  14. Role model Leadership Essentials and support a strong Gilead culture and core values.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

The ideal candidate should possess the following key competencies and experience:

  1. Advanced science degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, business administration) preferred.
  2. Relevant knowledge of the German pharmaceutical market and experience with the German reimbursement system or demonstrated ability to develop this knowledge rapidly.
  3. Relevant pharmaceutical industry experience, including expertise in marketing & sales strategy and operations.
  4. Field sales management or other field-based management experience is essential.
  5. LVD Therapeutic Area experience is desired.
  6. Previous Business Unit Leadership experience owning a P/L is essential.
  7. Experience in above-market (regional or global) Therapeutic Area or Brand settings is highly desired.
  8. Proven leadership experiences in other markets are a plus.
  9. Successful track record in marketing, product launches, and sustained growth; knowledge of specialty care markets is a plus.
  10. Ability to develop and implement multidimensional marketing and business plans.
  11. Experience with pharmaceutical regulatory requirements.
  12. Excellence in project management and managing multiple priorities.
  13. Budget management, revenue forecasting, and expense planning skills.
  14. Strong planning skills and scenario management.
  15. Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills in German and English.
  16. Ability to lead high-performance cross-functional teams and motivate others.
  17. Leadership qualities that inspire followership and team development.
