What you will do as a patent examiner

  • Perform end-to-end examination of patent applications in three official languages, assessing inventions for legal protection
  • Research, find, and use relevant prior art for evaluating novelty and inventive step
  • Support the innovation ecosystem by making well-reasoned decisions on patent grants, using technical and legal knowledge
  • Ensure the consistent application of the European Patent Convention and other legal texts

What we are looking for

Scientists, engineers, and IT, mechanical, and materials experts passionate about innovation, especially in areas like:

  • Cardiovascular implants
  • Medical diagnosis
  • Medical engineering
  • Medical robotics
  • Medical mechatronics and mechanics (including catheters, guidewires, microneedles, surgical devices, implants, and manufacturing tech)

Apply if you have

  • A relevant technical background from studies, projects, or work experience
  • Analytical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn new technologies and fields
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with colleagues and applicants

No prior IP knowledge is required; we provide legal training.

  • Master's degree (or higher) in relevant technical fields
  • Excellent knowledge (C1 or above) of at least one official language (English, French, or German), with the ability to understand others; or proficiency in English with willingness to learn other languages to B2 level
  • Work experience in industry is advantageous
  • Citizenship of one of the European Patent Organisation member states
