We invent and scale AI systems for robotics in fulfillment. Our mission is to enable robots to interact safely, efficiently, and fluently with the clutter and uncertainty of real-world fulfillment centers. We hire and develop subject matter experts in robotics with a focus on mechanism design, workcell automation, and iterative prototyping.

We are seeking a hands-on, Senior Hardware Development Engineer who will design, build, and test innovative robotic systems for deployment into the fulfillment network. The ideal candidate has experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems, enjoys analytical problem solving, and possesses practical knowledge of manufacturing methods.

Key job responsibilities

1. Design first of a kind robotic systems for deployment in fulfillment centers
2. Work with an interdisciplinary team to improve and maintain existing product designs including specification, design, prototyping, validation, and testing
3. Collaborate with Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams, as well as vendors, to ensure smooth production transition of design changes
4. Write requirements and functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
5. Demonstrate thorough engineering analysis and cradle-to-grave ownership behaviors
6. Mentor colleagues

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering
• Experience in designing complex mechanical products and equipment
• Background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems focusing on Actuator and Sensor Evaluation
• Experience with systems architecture, design, and system integration of mechatronic devices
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software, with best practices for part design and complex assemblies
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping equipment (CNC, 3D printing, waterjet, laser cutter)
• Experience deploying robots into production environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering
• Hands-on experience with proof-of-concept models
• Understanding of principles, theories, and concepts in mechanical engineering
• Strong organizational skills and teamwork abilities with hardware and software engineers
• Proficiency with Agile PLM software and ECOs
• Extensive experience in hardware product development
• Ability to quickly understand business and user needs and translate them into technological solutions
• Leadership skills in small or large teams
