Role: Clinical Trials Assistant (CTA)

The Clinical Trials Assistant (CTA) is a participant-facing representative of the Australian Epilepsy Project (AEP) central team within the Florey. The CTA's primary responsibilities include collecting and managing cognitive and psychological data for the AEP, conducting assessments with epilepsy and control participants, and overseeing screening, recruitment, and follow-up procedures over a 24-month period. They will also maintain the study database.

Alongside the AEP Central Clinical Trials team, the CTA will ensure accurate implementation of the protocol to guarantee complete data collection for each participant. The role involves building rapport with local clinical trial hubs to enhance participant experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and score standardized cognitive and psychological assessments and questionnaires.
  • Complete six neuropsychological assessments per week for both epilepsy and control participants.
  • Administer research-quality standardized cognitive assessments via telehealth.
  • Prepare participants for task-fMRI scanning, including training on in-scanner tasks.
  • Coordinate participant referrals with the AEP Clinical Trials team, including eligibility screening, consenting, MRI safety checks, and scheduling across multiple locations.
  • Distribute questionnaires and seizure diaries to participants.
  • Assist with research activities following AEP study protocols and ICH-GCP guidelines.
  • Enter and manage participant data in the REDCap database.
  • Collect medical records from healthcare providers.
  • Conduct baseline medical interviews and maintain contact for follow-up assessments at 6, 12, and 24 months.
  • Assist with genetic sample collection, shipping, and receipt.
  • Develop the role through evidence-based practice, ongoing training, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide research and administrative support to the AEP team and cognition laboratory.
  • Promote the Florey's vision through open communication, fostering innovation, and ensuring practices aligned with equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Salary:

The role offers an annual salary ranging from $75,139 to $86,313 (Professional Staff Level 5.15.8), commensurate with experience.

About You:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a health-related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and database management.
  • Experience with cognitive and psychological test administration.

Desirable but not essential experience includes:

  • Delivering telehealth assessments via telephone or videoconference.
  • Experience with research databases such as REDCap.
  • Experience in clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of epilepsy care or research.
