We are UKM. We have a clear social mission and, with our focus on healthcare, research, and teaching, we bear a unique responsibility.

To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise at the RTG Chemical Biology of Ion Channels (Chembion) – ideally with you on board!

The position is part of the externally-funded collaborative research endeavor Chembion and is open from June 1st, 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position is linked to the research group of Prof. Dr. Guiscard Seebohm (IfGH-Cellular Electrophysiology and Molecular Biology).

The work will focus on the characterization of modulators and functional analysis of neuronal/cardiac Kv7 channels. The Ph.D. student will work on: transfection of heteromeric channel constructs; electrophysiology techniques in oocytes and cells; stem cell-derived 2D cardiac cultures; high-resolution microscopy; and modeling proteins, individual electrical active cells, and networks.

We will provide a structured 3-year cutting-edge Ph.D. training program in the mentioned fields.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • An ambitious Ph.D. student with a strong interest in working within our multidisciplinary team
  • A state examination degree in pharmacy or a master's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or biology
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English, communication skills, and team spirit are essential
  • German language skills are not required but a willingness to learn is desirable

WE OFFER:

  • A competitive, interdisciplinary environment with a history of intense collaboration
  • Additional elements such as a 3-6 month internship abroad, retreats, lab rotations, and symposia as part of our training program
  • The RTG Chembion is based at the University of Münster
  • Thirteen scientists from the university collaborate with diverse expertise to study the chemical biology of ion channels
  • We address questions using innovative structural and chemical methods, integrating chemistry, pharmacology, and medicine, and promote the internationalization of young researchers
