VN 25/31 Performance Monitoring and Observability Software Engineer

EUMETSAT’s System Monitoring applications provide central monitoring and reporting of critical facilities across EUMETSAT and the provision of service and products to end users.

The Mission Performance Monitoring Software Engineer will be part of a team responsible for maintaining existing system monitoring applications and developing the next generation.

The successful candidate will ensure the evolution and maintenance of these systems, support new space missions, and assist with procurements for future systems.

Close collaboration with the Mission Performance Team within the Real-Time Services and System Operations (RSO) will provide valuable experience in end-user applications.

This role is ideal for someone seeking to build upon existing industry experience and aiming to become a knowledge expert within this specialized sector.

This position supports the Copernicus Programme.

Duties
  1. Define, design, and maintain EUMETSAT’s Mission Performance Monitoring Software.
  2. Contribute to roadmaps for modernizing or replacing tools with new technologies.
  3. Manage industrial contracts via Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
  4. Identify opportunities for optimization and promote innovation by staying updated on industry trends.
  5. Represent the team on various internal boards and as a technical officer for industrial contracts.
  6. Support and coordinate activities with operational end users.
Qualifications

University degree in software engineering or a related discipline.

Languages

Proficiency in English; some knowledge of French is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale software systems in high-availability environments.
  • Experience with verification & validation activities, automated testing, debugging, and profiling.
  • Knowledge of modern software technologies such as web, cloud, containers, and scripting.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks independently.
  • Experience managing contracts with industrial suppliers.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Interest and motivation to develop technical expertise.

Knowledge of real-time monitoring solutions and machine learning technologies would be advantageous.

Employment Conditions

The initial contract is for 4 years, with potential for renewal. The salary starts at approximately €7,000 per month, with benefits and annual reviews. EUMETSAT promotes equal opportunity employment.
