Job Description:

• Provide IP leadership and advice at the interface between IP and R&D, Breeding, and Business, with full responsibility for all IP matters and strategies related to our expanding business area of KFI, focusing on plant-based proteins and special crops.
• Act as a sparring partner to the business in identifying new opportunities, developing and implementing holistic IP strategies and business models, fostering value creation in alignment with KWS Group stakeholders at all levels.
• Prepare or oversee the filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide and establish freedom to operate (FTO) for all KWS activities.
• Represent the KWS Group in post-grant proceedings such as oppositions and litigation.
• Secure IP interests in collaborations or license negotiations with competitors, academia, or other industries, and support M&A activities.
• Expand and coordinate a global network of external IP counsels efficiently and cost-effectively.

Qualifications:

• PhD or comparable degree in Life Sciences, Food Science, Biology, or related fields.
• Strong understanding of the food industry, especially plant-based ingredients, is advantageous.
• Several years post-qualification experience as a European Patent Attorney in a multinational or international law firm.
• National qualification or admission to represent KWS before the Unitary Patent Court is a plus.
• Excellent customer orientation, entrepreneurial mindset, and communication skills to translate complex IP information for stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Team player with independent working style and social competence.
• Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken.
