Job Description

Research Associate for the Project “Search for Axion Dark Matter with MADMAX” (PhD student) § 28 Subsection 1 HmbHG

Salary level

Fixed-term contract starting 01.10.2024, for three years, in accordance with Section 2 of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG).

Scope of work

Part-time, amounting to 67% of standard weekly hours.

Your responsibilities

  • Teaching and research activities, with at least one-third of working hours dedicated to personal academic research.
  • Development, commissioning, and operation of an experiment for Dark Matter search related to the MADMAX project.
  • Calibration and data analysis of the experiment.
  • Participation in R&D for axion detection using magnetized dielectric media and RF antennas.
  • Specific duties include commissioning and integrating the MADMAX prototype in a cryostat, and operating the experiment at Hamburg’s SHELL laboratory and CERN SPS.
  • Teaching duties include 2.5 hours per semester.
Your profile
  • University degree in a relevant field.
  • Strong laboratory measurement skills.
  • Preferably experience with cryogenic or vacuum systems, high precision mechanics, and photon detection in the MHz–GHz range.
