At Helmholtz Munich, we develop groundbreaking solutions for a healthier society in a rapidly changing world. We believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation. Through strong partnerships, we accelerate the transfer of new ideas from the lab to real-life applications, improving lives.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc scientist (f/m/x) with extensive expertise in electrophysiology to join the international research team “Astrocyte-Neuron Networks” led by Prof. Dr. Cristina García Cáceres at the

Institute for Diabetes and Obesity (IDO)

of the Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC)

in Munich. You will develop and establish an experimental setup to study the glia-neuronal network in the brain, focusing on its role in the regulation of energy metabolism.

Your tasks
  1. Design, execute, and refine electrophysiological and calcium imaging recording techniques to assess glia and neural activities.
  2. Perform pharmacological modulation to investigate neural circuit activity in the context of metabolism and energy balance.
  3. Lead data analysis efforts, applying advanced signal processing and statistical techniques to extract meaningful insights from electrophysiological and imaging data.
  4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., molecular biology, bioinformatics) to integrate electrophysiological findings into broader research on neuroendocrinology and metabolism.
  5. Prepare high-quality reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
  6. Participate in the preparation of publications in top peer-reviewed journals.
Your profile
  • PhD in a relevant field (Neuroscience, Physiology or similar).
  • Strong experience in electrophysiology and advanced imaging techniques (minimum of 5 years related experience).
  • Experience working with murine models.
  • High motivation, flexibility, and a proven track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Desirable qualifications
  • Knowledge of neuroendocrinology and metabolism is highly desirable.

If you fulfill all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position is initially fixed-term for 2 years but may be extended.

Managing Directors Matthias Tschöp and Mike Frieser emphasize the importance of diversity, flexible work models, and a supportive environment for work-life balance. Contributing to a healthier society in an inspiring workplace is truly meaningful.
