  • fluency in English (knowledge of German desirable)
  • ability to communicate at a high level in one or more main languages spoken in the countries under study (e.g. Mandarin, Swahili, Hindi)
  • experience or strong interest in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • record of academic excellence
  • interest and capacity to undertake lengthy fieldwork stays in the regions under study
  • willingness to re-locate to Berlin
  • prior experience conducting research in one or more of the regions under study (Kenya, India, China)
  • track record of prior research on standardization or closely related issue
