What will you be doing in this role?

As a Senior Network Engineer, you will deliver network and security enhancements and provide 3rd line support for Tunstall’s IT network infrastructure and security systems, working with internal IT teams and external service providers.

Main responsibilities of the role :

• Design, implement, and optimize scalable and resilient network architectures, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and SD-WAN systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives and future growth.
• Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend upgrades to enhance performance and reliability.
• Monitor and manage network performance, ensuring optimal uptime and identifying areas for improvement.
• Lead the resolution of complex network issues, including root cause analysis, and provide expertise in mitigating recurring problems.
• Conduct regular audits of network configurations to maintain consistency and compliance.
• Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain protections such as firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments, apply patches, and updates to mitigate risks while maintaining compliance with standards.
• Proactively identify threats and design strategies to minimize security risks.
• Mentor and guide junior network engineers and IT staff, fostering knowledge growth.
• Act as the primary liaison between IT teams, vendors, and external partners for network projects and escalations.
• Lead cross-functional projects to ensure timely delivery of network initiatives.
• Implement automation tools and scripts (e.g., Ansible, Python) to streamline tasks and improve response times.
• Analyze and enhance network performance, focusing on bandwidth, latency, and traffic optimization.
• Develop and maintain documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.

Key skills and experience :

• Proven experience in networking roles.
• Design enterprise-grade networks.
• Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, etc.).
• Proficiency in SD-WAN, VLANs, VPNs, and protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
• Knowledge of network protocols and monitoring tools.
• Understanding of security principles and experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, authentication, and log management.
• Experience with 3rd line support of network technologies.
• Experience working with Tier 1 network providers.
• Experience defining and implementing network solutions for internal and external clients.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and VOIP technologies.
• Experience with Azure and AWS, including firewall configuration.
• Knowledge of public cloud connectivity and government standards.
