Extrinsic and intrinsic regulation of myelination in the central nervous system

Position Overview

A PhD position is available in the group of Dr. Tim Aberle at the Institute of Biochemistry (Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg), starting September 2025.

Responsibilities
  1. Research on extrinsic and intrinsic regulation of the myelination process in the central nervous system.
  2. Analyze the role of G-protein coupled receptors and calcium signals during myelination.
  3. Use histological, molecular biology, biochemical, and high throughput sequencing techniques.
  4. Conduct analyses involving primary cell culture, organotypic brain cultures, or transgenic/knockout mouse models.
Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent master's degree in life sciences, biochemistry, biology, molecular medicine, molecular neuroscience, or related fields.
  • Fluent in English (minimum CEFR level B2).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in neurosciences.
  • Practical skills in molecular biology, cell culture, and histology techniques.
Additional Information

The 65% position is paid according to the TV-L E13 tariff. We offer training, scientific supervision, and integration within a collaborative team. The position is part of the Research Training Group at the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research (IZKF) Erlangen, offering networking, mentoring, and soft skills seminars.
