Wikimedia Deutschland e. V. is seeking an Interim Engineering Manager (all genders) for its Software & Development Department in Berlin. This role involves leading a rotating team of software engineers, focusing on people management, team growth, and process improvements. The contract is limited to 6 months, with a hybrid working model requiring presence in Germany.

The department manages various product teams working on Wikidata, Wikibase, and related projects, handling platform operations, backend maintenance, API development, and more. The manager will mentor teams, oversee feature development, and support strategic goals.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading engineering teams and building features for multiple products.
  • Supporting engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders in developing features used globally.
  • Collaborating with other managers and team leads on development and processes.
  • Mentoring and supporting teams to ensure high quality of work and work-life balance.
  • Aligning development efforts with organizational goals.
  • Representing teams internally and publicly.
  • Coordinating with other departments and product teams.
