Your responsibilities:
  1. Conduct original research on the formation processes and timescales of magmatic-hydrothermal or magmatic deposits of strategic and critical metals in the continental crust (70% time)
  2. Contribute to the operation of the radiogenic isotope laboratory facilities, including clean rooms, thermal ionization and multi-collector-inductively coupled mass spectrometers (30% time)
  3. Develop own projects on metal cycling and the formation of world-class ore deposits in the continental crust
  4. Demonstrate a strong interest in interdisciplinary work and scientific exchange with internal and external partners
  5. Report regularly to collaborators, publish peer-reviewed papers in journals, open access datasets, and present results at conferences and workshops
  6. Actively engage and contribute to Section 3.1, the GFZ, and the broader scientific community
Your qualifications:
  1. PhD degree in a discipline of geosciences or analytical chemistry applied to the geosciences
  2. Background knowledge in magmatic or magmatic-hydrothermal systems, formation of critical and strategic metal deposits (e.g., Cu, Ni, PGEs, REEs), radiogenic isotope systematics, and elemental cycling in crustal rocks
  3. Experience working in clean laboratories, operating thermal ionization mass spectrometers (Triton) and Neptune multi-collector ICP-MS instruments
  4. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain analytical instruments
  5. Knowledge of geochemical data interpretation (e.g., lithogeochemistry, stable isotopes) is advantageous
  6. Proven publication record in scientific journals
  7. Ability to work independently and in teams, meet deadlines, and work interdisciplinarily
  8. Leadership qualities
  9. Proficiency in English; some knowledge of German or willingness to learn is an advantage
