Your responsibilities:
- Conduct original research on the formation processes and timescales of magmatic-hydrothermal or magmatic deposits of strategic and critical metals in the continental crust (70% time)
- Contribute to the operation of the radiogenic isotope laboratory facilities, including clean rooms, thermal ionization and multi-collector-inductively coupled mass spectrometers (30% time)
- Develop own projects on metal cycling and the formation of world-class ore deposits in the continental crust
- Demonstrate a strong interest in interdisciplinary work and scientific exchange with internal and external partners
- Report regularly to collaborators, publish peer-reviewed papers in journals, open access datasets, and present results at conferences and workshops
- Actively engage and contribute to Section 3.1, the GFZ, and the broader scientific community
Your qualifications:
- PhD degree in a discipline of geosciences or analytical chemistry applied to the geosciences
- Background knowledge in magmatic or magmatic-hydrothermal systems, formation of critical and strategic metal deposits (e.g., Cu, Ni, PGEs, REEs), radiogenic isotope systematics, and elemental cycling in crustal rocks
- Experience working in clean laboratories, operating thermal ionization mass spectrometers (Triton) and Neptune multi-collector ICP-MS instruments
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain analytical instruments
- Knowledge of geochemical data interpretation (e.g., lithogeochemistry, stable isotopes) is advantageous
- Proven publication record in scientific journals
- Ability to work independently and in teams, meet deadlines, and work interdisciplinarily
- Leadership qualities
- Proficiency in English; some knowledge of German or willingness to learn is an advantage
