On behalf of our client, ESOC, we are looking for a Junior Application Support Engineer to join our team in the FOS Virtualisation service at our Serco Spacecraft Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany.

Main Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL clusters to ensure optimal performance and reliability
• Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot containerized applications within Kubernetes environments
• Monitor system performance continuously and produce reports to support operational improvements
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on technical operations.
• Optionally support database infrastructure to ensure data accessibility and integrity
• Contribute to software development activities, particularly in Java and scripting environments
• Provide support for Linux-based systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting

Successful Candidate

Do you think you are the person we are looking for? See below what experience or knowledge you should bring :

• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL and Kubernetes in operational environments
• Strong background in infrastructure or platform engineering, with a focus on system reliability and observability
• Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure, security, and networking
• Knowledge of storage in Cloud (vblock, S3, Object Storage)
• Familiarity with Linux system administration and troubleshooting
• Experience in monitoring and performance tuning of distributed systems
• Working knowledge of scripting or development in scripting languages such as Java, Python, or similar languages
• Knowledge of Ansible and Terraform
• Ability to support database environments and ensure data consistency (optional but beneficial)
• Academic qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field are advantageous but not mandatory
• Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to dive into troubleshooting
• Team player mindset, with an efficient thinking focus in a procedure-driven working environment
• Ability to handle stressful situations and work autonomously
• Fluency in English (Written and spoken)
