Job description:PhD position in "Coupling of the Arctic to the global climate system" (m/f/d)
Background
The Arctic is warming much faster than the rest of the planet, and we understand how local feedback processes contribute to this Arctic amplification of climate change.
We do not yet understand how the exchange and transformation of air masses couples the Arctic to the global climate system, how this air-mass exchange and transformation changes in a warming climate and whether it is an important contributor to Arctic amplification.
Within the ERC-funded junior research group “Understanding Arctic amplification of climate change through air-mass transformations”, we are looking for a PhD student to build a fundamental understanding of atmospheric circulation in the Arctic and its coupling to global climate. To this end, you will study the exchange and transformation of air masses between the Arctic and lower latitudes using climate models, reanalysis data and the results of observational and process model studies carried out within the group.
