Master Thesis Convolutional Neural Network (m/f/d)

The AOCS/GNC department is seeking an enthusiastic and result-oriented Master’s student to develop Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) methods for spacecraft detection and localization. This thesis offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of computer vision and spaceflight dynamics.

Your Tasks
  • Expand and refine the review on CNN-based approaches for spacecraft detection, localization, and tracking.
  • Explore and evaluate different CNN architectures to identify the most promising approaches for this application.
  • Implement and optimize deep learning pipelines, ensuring suitability for onboard or near real-time scenarios.
  • Assess detection and localization performance on representative hardware.
Your Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Robotics/Control Engineering, AI, or Computer Science, with a focus on Machine Learning or Computer Vision.
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with deep learning frameworks.
  • Experience in Convolutional Neural Networks for image processing and object detection.
  • Knowledge of image processing libraries (e.g., OpenCV) is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft operations, GNC systems, or image-based navigation is a strong plus.
  • A proactive and analytical mindset with a passion for AI-driven space applications.
