Our new Core Facility for Flow Cytometry at Helmholtz Munich seeks a highly motivated research support specialist with experience in flow cytometry. The successful candidate will support core operations in cell sorting and analytical flow cytometry within an international, interdisciplinary environment.

You will ensure smooth operation of the facility, conduct user training, operate and maintain equipment, and interpret basic data. Working closely with team members, you will help complete projects efficiently and provide excellent customer support. This role offers opportunities to learn about advanced flow cytometry applications and other -omics technologies used across platforms.

Your responsibilities include:
  1. Daily operation of cell sorters and analyzer platforms, supporting users.
  2. Training new users in cell sorting and analysis.
  3. Creating training content and informational materials.
  4. Routine maintenance and quality control of instruments.
  5. Troubleshooting technical issues and liaising with service engineers.
  6. Developing new flow cytometry methodologies and workflows, including cross-platform integration.
  7. Adhering to safety and SOPs, maintaining detailed records.
  8. Assisting users with experimental planning, troubleshooting, and data interpretation for high-end experiments.
  9. Managing core operations such as ordering, billing, scheduling, and supply management, and maintaining a clean, organized lab environment.
  10. Backing up data and maintaining databases, scheduling core services.
Your profile:
  • Research/lab technician (MTA/BTA/CTA) with ≥6 years of relevant flow cytometry experience, or a Bachelor's/Master's in cell biology/immunology or related field.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with flow cytometry, in a core facility or similar setting.
  • Practical experience with instruments like BD Aria III, BD FACSSymphony S6, BD Symphony A3, Miltenyi MACSima.
  • Knowledge of complex high-end panel design (>20 parameters), optical configurations, and compensation rules.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and software such as Diva, FlowJo, FCSExpress.
  • Experience in lab management, SOP development, molecular biology, cell culture, or immunology assays.
  • Experience in user training and independent work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, proactive attitude, and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent English skills; German is highly desirable.
  • Experience working at BSL2 containment level.
  • Additional experience with high-throughput imaging, spectral analyzers, single-cell, and spatial biology applications, microscopy, histology, or high-dimensional flow cytometry data analysis is advantageous.
