Postdoctoral Scientist – Detector Integration and Characterization (f/m/d)

The Position

  • Integration, characterization and calibration of X-ray detectors at the European XFEL, with focus on the new systems, including large detectors and small modules/prototypes.
  • Participation in the installation, integration, and setup of new detector systems.
  • Contribution to the setup, and optimization of laboratory infrastructure for detector characterization and calibration.
  • Supporting detector developers, mechanical and electronics engineers in component testing and integration.
  • Performing measurements and detector tests, including response characterization, stability studies, and calibration.
  • Analyzing measurement data and contributing to the development and refinement of calibration and characterization procedures and tools in collaboration with software colleagues.
  • Taking an active role in the user support provided to the instruments by the Data Department.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics or an equivalent experience.
  • Experience in hardware integration, including vacuum setups and mechanical assembly.
  • Experience in calibration and characterization of advanced X‑ray and/or particle detectors.
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., Python) for data analysis and automation tasks.
  • Experience in detector operation and usage at a light source is considered as an asset.
  • Knowledge of detector front-end electronics, DAQ systems, and lab instrumentation is an asset.
  • Experience with simulation of detector response to X‑rays is an asset.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a structured way in a culturally diverse and multi-disciplinary team with
