About the team

The SumUp Point-of-Sale solution is used by cafes, shops, bars, hair salons, and others to run and grow their business. It offers features such as product catalog, inventory management, business analytics, compliance support, loyalty features, and more.

The POS is part of the SumUp SuperApp that comes with our own register hardware, or can be used on tablet & phone devices.

As a Senior Android Developer in POS, you will join a cross-functional team and work alongside a Product Manager, Product Designer, Senior iOS Developer, Android Developer, and a Frontend Developer. The team is responsible for the item catalog value stream - a core component serving the needs of almost all teams at SumUp.

About the role

We are moving towards Kotlin Multiplatform with a hybrid strategy to support both Android and iOS. As a Senior Android Developer, you are expected to learn this technology and help the team refine and adopt it.

You will be building new features for the item catalog within the SumUp SuperApp, increasing the team's expertise on Kotlin Multiplatform, and helping improve the application's architecture.

To succeed, you should care about user interaction, usability, and have attention to detail. Your communication should be structured and precise, and you should thrive in cross-functional collaboration.

This role is based on-site in Berlin. We value face-to-face interactions that happen organically when working closely with colleagues.

What you’ll do

• Own and guide the evolution of the product and engineering, proposing and implementing changes regularly.
• Participate in building and improving our unified Android app, providing well-designed solutions for an app used in over 60 countries.
• Provide comprehensive documentation and tests for your features before release.
• Collaborate with Software, QA, Security, and DevOps engineers to ensure smooth, secure, and high-quality deliveries.
• Coach and mentor other engineers to enhance their skills.
• Conduct code reviews, considering style and implementation.
• Interact with various teams, providing technical insights for new features while considering business value.

You'll be great for this position if:

• You are comfortable with Kotlin and the Android framework.
• You understand architectural patterns like MVVM and MVP, and can design modular, scalable apps.
• You know what to test, why, and how to write flexible tests.
• You are familiar with reactive programming (Flow, Coroutines, concurrency).
• You aim for clean code but are pragmatic when needed.
• You are interested in multi-platform development with Kotlin Multiplatform.
