Our work involves developing methods for precise tumor diagnosis and improved treatment of cancer patients. Contributions from research, administration, or infrastructure are all valued, making our daily work meaningful and exciting.

Position: Research Associate – Functional Genomics

The Precision Sarcoma Research group at the German Cancer Research Center and the National Center for Tumor Diseases Heidelberg (Head: Dr. Priya Chudasama) is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time position. The group focuses on understanding rare cancers called bone and soft-tissue sarcoma, employing computational and functional genomics to study tumor specimens and cell models for mechanisms of sarcomagenesis and biology-guided treatments. More details can be found on our website.

Your Tasks
  • Support various ongoing projects in the lab, collaborating closely with team members and external partners.
  • Perform analysis of next-generation sequencing data from human sarcoma samples, identifying genome, transcriptome, and methylome alterations (bioinformatics expertise preferred).
  • Conduct molecular biology techniques such as sample preparation, cloning, sequencing, mutagenesis, and PCR.
  • Perform routine cell culture, including culturing cell lines, producing lentiviruses, and transducing cells, alongside cancer hallmark assays.
  • Utilize flow cytometry and cell sorting techniques.
  • Document and present results at lab meetings and conferences.
  • Plan and coordinate projects independently, analyze and interpret results, establish new methods, and supervise new lab members.
  • Manage communications with collaborators, service providers, and internal departments.
  • Support laboratory management tasks such as ordering reagents, maintaining inventories, and managing shipments.
Your Profile
  • Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Extensive experience with cell culture and molecular biology methods.
  • Programming skills in R and Python; experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects and move between sites as needed.
  • Strong team player with high motivation, reliability, and effective communication skills in English; German language skills are advantageous but not required.
We Offer
  • State-of-the-art equipment and opportunities for international networking.
