About the Position:

This position is a PART TIME 0436 Teacher, ESL (Elementary) position (see Position Requirements) for Sembach Elementary School in Sembach, Germany, Europe Central District. This vacancy is for the 25/26 school year.

Duties
  1. Plan, develop, and organize long-range lesson plans and daily class work to ensure in-depth learning within the timeframe allotted to meet the course/curriculum content standards.
  2. Select, adapt, or modify teaching methods or materials that experience indicates will be most effective in teaching the assigned grade level(s) and subject matter.
  3. Support, counsel, and motivate students to meet or exceed grade-level standards.
  4. Adhere to and, when applicable, implement safety and security procedures.
  5. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, develop lesson plans independently within the framework of approved curriculum standards, course outlines, texts, and guidelines.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • A two-year trial period may be required.
  • Appointment is subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens

All candidates must reside within the local commuting area, defined as the geographic area surrounding the work site where people can reasonably travel daily to work.

To qualify, you must meet the education requirements below:

State or Territory Certification/License

A valid fully professional state teaching license in content areas or the state's equivalent will be accepted as fulfilling all professional teaching certification requirements. The license must be unencumbered. Alternatively, the Praxis I and II or seven years of teaching at the PreK-12 level can substitute for an unencumbered license, provided all minimum education and qualification standards are met. Military spouse preference under the MSLRA will be considered for encumbered licenses.

Minimum Academic Preparation and Requirements

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution is required, with at least 40 semester hours in general education courses across various fields, and a minimum of 18 semester hours in professional teacher education courses.

Student Teaching or an Internship

Required as part of an approved teacher education program. In the absence of such, one year of full-time employment as an educator may be credited.

0436 Teacher, ESL Elementary

A major in ESL or at least 24 semester hours in ESL, including courses like applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, and language development, is required. Additionally, at least 6 semester hours in ESL teaching methodology are necessary.
