Your contribution: What you will do

As the Director of Total Rewards and Payroll EMEA (m/f/d), you will be a key member of the EMEA HR leadership team, playing a critical role in supporting our HR agenda. You will lead the development and implementation of a regional Total Rewards strategy and roadmap covering compensation, benefits, program change, and communications. You will oversee payroll operations across multiple European countries, ensuring compliance with regulations, tax laws, and employment practices. You will provide leadership and strategic direction to the payroll team and shape the Total Rewards strategy for the region. This position reports to the global VP of Total Rewards, HR Technology, and Payroll, with a dotted line to the VP HR EMEA.

The position is based at our Clarios EMEA headquarters in Hannover, Germany.

Your responsibilities: How you will do it

Using your leadership and strategic planning experience, you will:

  1. Develop and implement a regional total rewards strategy including compensation, insured benefits, allowances, tax optimization, and recognition programs.
  2. Act as the local point of contact and advocate for internationally mobile employees in EMEA, managing payroll and taxation activities.
  3. Conduct market research to ensure competitive rewards offerings.
  4. Lead and supervise the EMEA payroll team to deliver accurate payroll across 24 countries.
  5. Ensure timely processing of payroll, bonuses, benefits, and deductions.
  6. Stay updated on payroll regulations and tax laws, ensuring compliance.
  7. Drive an employee-centric payroll experience through feedback and process improvements.
  8. Collaborate with HR and business leaders on compensation and payroll challenges.
  9. Lead or contribute to global Total Rewards or payroll projects.
  10. Establish and monitor KPIs for your areas of responsibility.
  11. Manage third-party service providers and budgets, conducting cost/benefit analyses.
  12. Foster a high-performing team through engagement, coaching, and development.
  13. Demonstrate Clarios values through ethical behavior, challenging the status quo to improve service and employee experience.
Your knowledge, skills, and abilities: What we look for
  • University degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field.
  • Proven leadership in payroll and total rewards, preferably within a German multinational organization, with experience across Europe and HR systems.
  • Ability to develop strategies supporting broader HR and business goals.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of European payroll regulations, tax laws, and employment practices.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and systems.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Collaborative approach and high emotional intelligence.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects and programs.
  • Ability to translate organizational challenges into effective programs.
  • Fluency in German and English.
