Jobbeschreibung

We are Covestro. We are curious. We are courageous. We are colorful. We refine chemical material solutions with game-changing products. Let us empower you to push boundaries. Join us and our 18,000 colleagues now, and together we will make the world a brighter place.

The Digital R&D (DRD) organization at Covestro is responsible for innovative digital solutions for the development of chemical products and applications. Our experts work in material simulations, computational chemistry, laboratory automation, R&D data science, high-performance computing, and quantum computing. The department is expanding its team of scientists and software developers to harness new possibilities of artificial intelligence for chemical and materials science research. We aim to use large language models to gain insights from unstructured data sources (such as research reports or regulatory texts) and to support the chemical research process with AI and creativity.

In addition to our diverse benefits, you can expect an attractive starting salary between €87,200 and €105,900 per year, plus a variable component if you work full-time. The salary depends on your qualifications and experience.

In this role, you will:

  1. Support ongoing and future projects in AI.
  2. Analyze business and project requirements to identify relevant data and tools for LLMs, AI models, and applications.
  3. Develop, maintain, and automate chemical LLM pipelines.
  4. Create, maintain, and automate models and methods for accessing confidential information sources from existing LLMs.
  5. Maintain and operate existing solutions.
  6. Collaborate with cloud architects to automate, maintain, and monitor pipeline solutions.

What you bring to the job:

Required:

  • Master's degree in computer science, machine learning, AI, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience in ML engineering or model development.
  • Strong Python programming skills, emphasizing clean, efficient, and modular code for data and ML pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch and HuggingFace Transformers, including model customization and fine-tuning.
  • Solid understanding of MLOps principles, including model versioning, CI/CD, model monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with modern data storage and management architectures, such as OLAP databases, Lakehouse platforms, and Vector Databases.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining cloud-based ML infrastructure, preferably on AWS, including services like Glue, SageMaker, with tools like CDK and Terraform.

Preferred:

  • Practical experience in medium to large-scale LLM training (e.g., PyTorch Distributed, DeepSpeed, Horovod, Hugging Face Accelerate).
  • Experience designing, executing, and interpreting ML evaluation experiments, including metric tracking, hyperparameter optimization, and error analysis.
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Information Retrieval (IR) is a plus.
  • Understanding of basic polymer chemistry principles and interest in applying ML techniques to scientific data processing and discovery.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
