Roles & Responsibilities

• Implement the Starr Companies underwriting strategy, portfolio, and customer/channel propositions to optimize local and regional business opportunities, aligning with Starr's overall strategy and risk appetite;
• Support Zurich-based underwriters by underwriting this market segment and executing business strategies;
• Authorize and recommend onshore energy risks, considering local risk appetite and integrating this into final underwriting decisions;
• Monitor the German marketplace to identify, assess, and recommend opportunities or threats, including emerging risks;
• Leverage your network to insurance brokers in Germany to acquire onshore energy insurance business;
• Handle underwriting tasks from technical analysis to drafting insurance conditions, negotiating with clients, and supporting during the policy period;
• Serve as the primary contact for brokers, clearly articulating our risk appetite;
• Communicate with colleagues and superiors, keeping them informed of developments;
• Document inquiries, quotes, and orders in existing systems;
• Identify and develop cross-selling opportunities with other Starr lines of business;
• Collaborate regularly with claims, technical accounting, risk engineering, and other functions.

What We're Looking For

• A degree in engineering with practical industry experience, or an insurance-related qualification with strong technical understanding;
• Experience as an underwriter/senior underwriter in onshore energy or as an insurance broker in this sector;
• Good knowledge of current market wordings, trends in onshore energy, and reinsurance practices;
• Proven relationship-building, communication, influencing, and negotiation skills, with a team-oriented mindset;
• Strong connections with key brokers in the marketplace;
• Fluency in German and English, with excellent presentation skills;
• Ability to work independently, diligently, and seek advice when needed;
• Proficiency in computer skills and adaptability to new systems.
