Qualifications

Onsite Network Engineer:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related area
• 4 years of experience with network administration, racking, stacking devices, and basic troubleshooting of Cisco switches, firewalls, routers, etc.
• Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals

Responsibilities

• Maintain, implement, and troubleshoot networks
• Design and support network systems and infrastructure
• Configure and operate routers and switches
• Monitor network performance and recommend improvements based on analysis
• On-site Troubleshooting & Resolution:

Once on-site, the engineer must systematically perform the following tasks:

• Physical Inspection & Basic Checks:
  • Visual inspection of devices
  • Verify device power status (LED indicators)
  • Check cabling for damage or loose connections
  • Validate rack stability and airflow
• Connectivity Testing:
  • Use cable testers for Ethernet/fiber links
  • Reseat SFPs/transceivers if link issues occur
  • Check switch port status (shut/no shut)
• Hardware Replacement:
  • Power down faulty devices after client confirmation
  • Replace with pre-configured spares if available
  • Document serial numbers in ITSM tickets
• Coordination with Remote Teams:
  • Establish secure remote sessions (SSH/TeamViewer)
  • Share console outputs and implement configuration fixes as directed
  • Initiate Teams calls for screen sharing
• Post-Resolution Validation:
  • Perform ping tests, traceroutes, throughput checks
  • Verify VLAN/access controls and firewall rules
  • Obtain client sign-off before departure
• Post-Support Steps:
  • Update ITSM tickets with actions taken and client approvals
  • Implement temporary workarounds if unresolved and escalate as needed
  • Record used spare parts in asset inventory
  • Update network diagrams and CMDB if changes are made
