About your role:
  • Collaborate closely and efficiently with all project partners at DESY and the industrial project partners
  • Develop scientific interests within or related to the project
  • Conduct synchrotron experiments at selected X-ray beamlines, analyse data and correlate the results with the scanning probe microscopy investigation
  • Develop innovative instrumentation & methods as well as conducting experiments. Support users of related experiments at the P. High-energy beamline (P.2)
  • Conduct correlative corrosion experiments (Nanolab)

About you:
  • PhD in materials science, engineering science, physics, chemistry or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with characterization of materials with high energy synchrotron radiation and/or scanning microscopy and/or surface sensitive x-ray diffraction methods
  • Knowledge of the corrosion of metals and /or their mechanical properties
  • Practice in conducting experiments at synchrotron radiation sources and/or scanning probe microscopy techniques
  • Interest to work in applied and industry relevant science
  • Programming skills, e.g. Python & experience to analyse large data sets
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and excellent knowledge of English
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to summarize and present project results to the scientific as well as the industrial community
