Head of AI (Freelance) – Microsoft AI Specialist

Location : Remote / Germany-based

Project Duration : 6–12 months (with potential for extension)

We are seeking a highly experienced freelance Head of AI to lead the strategic development and implementation of AI initiatives across our organisation. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Microsoft AI technologies and a proven track record of leading AI projects from concept to deployment.

Key Responsibilities :

• Define and execute the AI roadmap in alignment with organisational strategy.
• Oversee the design, development, and deployment of AI and machine learning solutions using Microsoft AI tools (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, Cognitive Services, Copilot, Power Platform AI).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data scientists, engineers, and product teams.
• Evaluate AI opportunities and drive PoCs and pilots toward production.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to identify high-impact use cases.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy regulations (including GDPR), and ethical AI principles.
• Monitor AI industry trends and integrate best practices and innovations.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

• Proven experience as a Head of AI, Lead Data Scientist, or similar leadership role.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure AI stack (including Azure OpenAI, ML Studio, Cognitive Services, etc.).
• Strong understanding of NLP, computer vision, generative AI, and data engineering principles.
• Fluent in English (German is a plus).
• Based in Germany or available to work on CET hours.

Preferred :

• Microsoft Certified : Azure AI Engineer Associate or similar credentials.
• Experience working in highly regulated industries (finance, healthcare, etc.).
• Familiarity with MLOps and DevOps for AI.
