Job Summary

This recruitment will fill three (3) part-time (approximately 24 hours/week) temporary Cook 1 positions for the Oregon 4-H Conference at the Education Center in the Division of Extension and Engagement at Oregon State University (OSU). These positions are valid through September 30, 2024, limited to 1,039 hours during this period.

The position supports the OSU Extension 4-H Youth Development program at the Oregon 4-H Center, a youth camp and conference facility near Salem. Food service is integral to camp and outdoor school activities, serving groups from 25 to 200 participants. The role requires flexibility, initiative, teamwork, and effective communication, especially under stressful conditions.

Core Responsibilities

The Cook 1 contributes to an inclusive, respectful, and safe work environment by performing the following duties:

  1. Cooking (65%)
    • Prepare foods according to menus and recipes, assisting higher-level cooks.
    • Handle ingredients, cook various menu items for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special dietary needs.
    • Operate commercial kitchen equipment and ensure food presentation and quality.
  2. Cleaning (20%)
    • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas.
    • Store food properly, perform sanitation duties, and manage waste.
  3. Lead Work & Miscellaneous (15%)
    • Assist with inventory, assign tasks, and support kitchen operations.
    • Respond to guest inquiries and participate in staff meetings.
Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in a commercial food service facility or a Certificate of Completion in culinary arts/food and hospitality from a certified institution.

Additional Requirements
  • Valid Food Handler’s card or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Criminal history check required due to position sensitivity.
