Jobbeschreibung

Research Associate - Functional Genomics

Reference number : 2025-0139

Position: Full-time

At the German Cancer Research Center, our mission is "Research for a life without cancer." We investigate how cancer develops, identify risk factors, and develop new prevention and treatment strategies. Our work spans research, administration, and infrastructure, making each contribution meaningful and exciting.

The Precision Sarcoma Research group at the German Cancer Research Center and the National Center for Tumor Diseases Heidelberg (Head: Dr. Priya Chudasama) is seeking a Research Associate to join our team. The team focuses on understanding rare cancers called bone and soft-tissue sarcomas, employing computational and functional genomics approaches to characterize tumor specimens and identify mechanisms of sarcomagenesis and potential treatments. More details about the team and projects can be found here.

YOUR TASKS

The successful candidate will support various ongoing projects, collaborate with team members and external partners, and handle lab management duties. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Analyzing next-generation sequencing data from human sarcoma samples to identify genomic, transcriptomic, and methylomic alterations (bioinformatics expertise preferred).
  2. Performing molecular biology techniques such as sample preparation, cloning, sequencing, mutagenesis, and PCR.
  3. Conducting routine cell culture procedures, including culturing cell lines, producing lentiviruses, transducing cells, and performing assays related to cancer hallmarks.
  4. Utilizing flow cytometry and cell sorting techniques.
  5. Documenting and presenting results in lab meetings and conferences.
  6. Planning and coordinating projects independently, analyzing and interpreting data, establishing new methods, and supervising new lab members.
  7. Managing communications with collaborators, service providers, and internal departments.
  8. Supporting laboratory management tasks such as ordering reagents, maintaining inventories and databases, and shipments.
YOUR PROFILE
  • Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Extensive experience with cell culture and molecular biology methods.
  • Programming skills in R and Python; experience with NGS data analysis is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to support multiple projects, and flexibility to move between sites.
  • Team player with high motivation, reliability, and effective communication skills in English; German language skills are advantageous but not required.
