Global Claims Practice Leader, Energy Transition

As Global Claims Practice Leader, you will collaborate closely with the Energy Transition, GCUO, and Underwriting teams, and also fellow Practice Leaders, playing a pivotal role on some of the most complex claims as well as working with the team to analyze the wider portfolio and share trends and lessons learned.

You will be part of the Claims Practice Community, sharing insights and experiences across products and geographies. The role also involves close working with key stakeholders including the local Underwriting Managers for Energy Transition, the Actuarial team, and Claims Management.

You will be based preferably in the UK or Germany; however, we have implemented our Smart Working initiative offering a hybrid way of working, combining both remote and office work.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  1. Globally monitoring a portfolio of the largest and most complex losses and potential exposures in Energy Transition, to promote best claim handling practices and ensure compliance with early warning and large loss protocols. Providing insights into watchlist developments and emerging risks & trends.
  2. Be the technical expertise point of reference for regional teams handling Energy Transition claims, collaborating on the handling of the largest losses and monitoring the entire portfolio to identify and share trends and lessons learned.
  3. Large Loss Governance: Ensuring claims handling compliance with the Large Loss Framework, actively participating in roundtable and watchlist review meetings, and driving accurate and timely reserving of our largest ET claims.
  4. Act as a main stakeholder to the Energy Transition leads in other functions, serving as a Strategic Business Partner to the Energy Transition Team, GCUO Energy, and Regional CUOs for Energy, as well as the Regional Claims Teams, for accurate reporting of large claims and emerging trends.
  5. Collaborate with Country Claims Managers and Claims Handlers on processes related to coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, reserving, and resolution of claims, in line with Global Claims guidelines and standards.
  6. Create and lead an Energy Transition Claims community to connect and energize the team, encourage knowledge sharing, and facilitate training. Engage with other Practice leaders to ensure consistent support and collaboration.
  7. Build and maintain an external network of Experts (Adjusters, Forensic accountants, etc.) who can work on AXA XL claims globally and provide value-added services such as internal training.
  8. Assess potential high-severity claims and complex issues across jurisdictions, determining case strategies and action plans with Claims Handlers/Managers and the Practice.
  9. Work with Claims Managers as a strategic partner to local Underwriting Managers for Energy Transition, reserving actuaries, and other stakeholders, providing post-loss analysis, wording guidance, and feedback.
  10. Develop ET Claims Lessons Learned, Claims Data, and Trends analysis, ensuring this information is shared with relevant stakeholders inside and outside claims.

You will report to the Global Claims Practice Leader, Property Construction & Energy.

  • Claims Experience: significant exposure in Energy Transition (solar, wind, bioenergy, etc.), including handling complex claims, with product-specific experience and knowledge of litigation management and regulatory issues.
  • Legal & Regulatory Knowledge: understanding of multi-jurisdictional insurance coverage law and claim regulations.
  • Market Knowledge: strong understanding of market dynamics, processes, and systems in the Americas, UK & Lloyd’s, APAC, and Europe.
  • Customer Focus: high dedication to customer service, professionalism, and diplomacy in broker and insured relations.
  • Excellent Collaborator: ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with claims handlers, managers, insureds, brokers, underwriters, and legal counsel, including working with virtual teams.
  • Supportive of Colleagues/Emerging Talent: providing support, encouragement, and training to colleagues.
  • Excellent Communicator: strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and influencing skills; able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Results-Oriented: proactive approach, prioritizing multiple responsibilities with a sense of urgency.
  • Continuous Improvement Focused: eager to learn, improve skills, and enhance AXA XL claims capabilities.
  • Language Skills: fluent in English; proficiency in another European language such as French or German is desirable.
