We are searching an Individual for a permanent position within the EMEA Legal division for a qualified lawyer to be based in Frankfurt, with a focus on providing advice on a range of banking, corporate and regulatory matters for the Firm’s entities. The role requires a “hands on” collaborative approach across the team’s portfolio of work as it continues to evolve.

The Frankfurt Legal team works in close cooperation and dialogue with product coverage & specialist lawyers in other EMEA jurisdictions and with the Compliance and Global Financial Crimes functions across EMEA.

What will you be doing?

Banking & Financial Services

Legal advisory services to relevant Business Units including Investment Banking, Global Capital Markets and Sales & Trading:

  • Providing legal advice on banking and financial services issues, in particular related to deposit-taking activities, lending and capital markets activity, including reviewing and drafting contracts, client negotiations and advising on the German aspects of transaction documentation
  • Providing support on projects, new business initiatives, including involvement in the new product, franchise, conflict, and other internal risk control processes
  • Advising on domestic and cross-border licensing and regulatory requirements to support business activities and providing guidance on local market practice
  • Briefing internal committees and stakeholders as appropriate, supporting the provision of relevant training, managing external counsel relationships locally and complying with relevant divisional processes

Corporate

Assisting with legal and regulatory advice to Firm Management and other stakeholders on legal entity management, commercial contracts and internal controls, and related prudential regulatory issues. The candidate will also be expected to provide local governance support, working with the company secretarial functions in Frankfurt and other EMEA jurisdictions.

Regulatory

Providing advice on prudential regulatory matters relevant to the EU legal entities. Working closely with EMEA Regulatory Affairs lawyers to identify and assess new German and EU regulatory initiatives that are impactful to the business and operations in Germany and provide legal coverage in relation to relevant implementation projects, including on interpretation issues or interactions with regulators.

What We’re Looking For

  • German law qualified lawyer essential, with 5+ years post-qualification experience in a law firm and/or in-house financial services Legal department
  • Strong understanding of corporate/banking law and the financial services regulatory regime applicable in Europe
  • Excellent communication skills (in both German & English), with an ability to impact and influence senior colleagues
  • Collegiate / team player but with the ability to work independently to drive matters forward and represent the Legal & Compliance Division

  • Proactive, highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of any of the relevant business / product areas would be useful but not essential

The lawyers and other professionals of the Legal & Compliance Division provide a wide range of services to our business units. They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute. They preserve the Firm’s invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the Firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the Firm’s businesses.
