Job Description:

Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. This key part of our business makes sure we fulfil and dispatch orders efficiently so that our customers get their items on time. As a Transportation Area Manager, you will be responsible and accountable leader for a team of associates in a cluster within Germany.

You will own the operations and engagement of your shift with the aim to optimize associates' experience and performance in hand with load planning and efficiency, with a focus on safety.
This team is entrepreneurial, wears many hats, and works in a highly collaborative environment. If you have a safety-focused, customer-obsessed, transportation and logistics industry background and experience working in a fast-paced, ever-changing, and ambiguous environment, we would love to hear from you.

TAP scope is to execute Over the Road journeys (middle mile linehaul) and Shunting with Amazon Associates who are provided bar-raising training to become fully qualified TAP Drivers (TD). Our vision is to provide a world-class employment experience in a modern, technology-driven environment that places safety at the forefront of everything we do. TAP's mission is to provide a safe, sustainable, profitable, and best-in-class transport operation that supports Amazon’s growth, whilst offering people an opportunity to embark on a new career path. TAP is expanding rapidly in the German Network, and the team will significantly grow over the coming years. As the program grows, the scope brings new and exciting opportunities within the management team and the transportation industry. The team is required to spend time between the office (in central Dortmund location, 1-2 days of the week) and 4 sites within the DTM cluster (DTM1-DTM2-DTM9-PAD1, 3-4 days of the week). For this, the team should expect to be fully reimbursed for their personal car mileage. Full onboarding and training will be provided. We promote personal career growth, development, and also offer comprehensive shadowing of the experienced team in the UK, including travel to the UK during onboarding with all expenses covered.

Key job responsibilities include:
- Safeguard your team’s safety, promoting Amazon’s Health and Safety standards, and ensuring all safety programs and compliance.
- Ensure your team is engaged and motivated, fostering a culture of ownership and high performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Maintain Amazon’s high standards of process quality.
- Continuously seek to improve and streamline processes, identifying root causes quickly.
- Find practical and simple solutions to complex problems without sacrificing quality or core functionality.
- Think analytically about project management.
- Support the rollout and implementation of new systems/processes and gather feedback.
- Communicate daily metrics and report exceptions.
- Act as the responsible person regarding the commercial road haulage permit.
- Participate in daily operations calls to communicate team performance to Transportation Operations Management (TOM).
- Monitor and report fleet and driver compliance.
- Travel within your cluster.

A typical day involves managing a shift at one of our sites, focusing on safety, quality, and performance, overseeing process improvements, and mentoring new managers.

Working schedules may vary, including day, mid, and night shifts, and weekend work may be required due to business needs.

Location & business travel involve visiting four Amazon facilities in Dortmund, with time split between the office and sites, and flexibility to start and end days at different locations.

About the team: Amazon’s Transportation Service (ATS) team plays a central role in our success, using various transport methods and data-driven decisions to maximize efficiency while prioritizing safety and sustainability.
