Job Description

The ECB is seeking an Investigator Expert to manage investigations into suspected breaches of professional duties under ECB rules and applicable EU laws and regulations. The role involves coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, developing investigative strategies, and presenting findings to senior management. Your Role

As Investigator Expert, you will:

  1. Manage investigations into suspected breaches of professional duties under ECB rules and applicable EU laws and regulations;
  2. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and effective handling of cases reported;
  3. Develop investigative strategies, methodologies, and supporting documentation to ensure procedural robustness and compliance;
  4. Present findings and recommendations to senior management and relevant decision-making bodies;
  5. Engage and collaborate with peer institutions to exchange best practices and enhance cross-institutional cooperation;
  6. Contribute to improving internal communication and fostering transparency around investigations among ECB colleagues.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Essential:

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in law or a relevant field (see details on degree equivalences);
  • At least five years of professional experience within a European institution, agency, or body involving tasks such as legal advice, assessing complaints, or internal investigations;
  • Sound knowledge of EU civil service law or European employment law, including case-law and doctrine;
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and managing various tasks or processes;
  • Ability to analyze complex cases and reports, and communicate assessments clearly to management and decision-makers;
  • Strong drafting and presentation skills for diverse audiences;
  • Advanced command of English (C1) and intermediate command (B1) of at least one other EU official language.

Desired:

  • Additional relevant experience in European data protection law;
  • Relevant professional training or certifications, e.g., Bar admission or Data Protection Officer certification;
  • Understanding of central banking, banking supervision, or financial institutions, preferably with practical experience;
  • Advanced command of French (C1).
